NYE2015

Courtenay Henderson

I always have this wonderful idea in my head of Norrie and I at some super swanky NYE party, all dressed up, eating bite sized hors d'oeurves and sipping fancy cocktails. Someone is there at the door to take our coats, and hand us a welcome drink. Then we mingle with people and tell jokes, the kind of jokes that make you tilt your head back and laugh in amusement. And then there would be dancing- so much dancing!! Just like one of those parties that Holly Golightly would have thrown in Breakfast at Tiffany's. What a life!

Our reality: Staying up late is hard.

But I will look awesome until I fall asleep at 10:29 tonight.

I have been loving the jumpsuit. They are so easy to dress up or down and it's already a complete outfit. I got this little jumpsuit from H&M kids, yes kids, for under $20. It's full of New Years glitz and glam and it feels like I'm wearing pyjamas. #winning

I also decided to keep the hair simple this year. I just curled it with a curling wand, and threw it up into a ponytail. I think it looks sleek and it's definitely not too fussy. Add a little hair spray and you're good to go!

We will be celebrating by cooking a huge meal with friends, playing games and hanging out. It's become one of our favourite traditions and we don't have to wait forever for food or book months in advance to get a spot at their table ;)

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Welcome, 2016!

Scarf Season

Courtenay Henderson

Two words, friends: blanket scarf.

I love that you can wear this bad boy in so many ways. It's cozy. trendy and most importantly it's affordable.

These little gems are everywhere right now, and I bet you could even find a large square scarf in your mama's or grandma's closet. They come in so many colors and they're forcing me (yes, forcing me) to branch out from my closet full of neutrals. So on the days I'm feeling particularly feisty, I can bust out a patterned blanket scarf to spice up those black and whites that I love so dearly.

Let me just share my fashion philosophy:

Wear it LOUD and PROUD.

I'm serious. If you love something, wear it. Not like "Oh no, I hope no one notices me in this rather large scarf." More like, "I am looking so dang good in this huge piece of fabric wrapped around my neck." What I've noticed about people is if you are confident in whatever you're wearing (or doing) you become a leader or a trend setter - not the person who's always trying to keep up. Trust your gut and wear what you love because YOU love it.

One more thing I love about this scarf: it works for any age. I love seeing trends that all age groups can take part in! It makes the scarf so versatile because not everyone will wear the same way. The loop, the cape (pictured), the drop, or use it as a blanket!

I hope that one day, I'm the grandma rocking the latest trend and some really heavy mascara with my pile of grandkids. For now, I'm the mama of one stepping up my game in leather leggings and a blanket scarf.

PS! Let's just talk about those adorable Steve Madden booties that I thrifted for $10! They've been my go-to all season. I love a good deal, and Steve just gets me. Booties are a great way to dress up an outfit, and bonus: they're easy to walk in. All the ladies said "Hallelujah!"
